Aloo ki Puri

aloo ki puri

There is another way of making aloo ki puri besides the method given below. It is by stuffing potato mixture in the puri. The recipe which I am sharing is much easier to make and absorbs much less oil than by stuffing. So, give it a try.
Recipe of aloo ki puri

1 cup whole wheat flour (atta)
2 medium (aloo) potatoes- boiled, peeled and mashed well
1/4 tsp garam masala powder
1 tsp cumin powder
½ tsp red chilli powder
Salt to taste
2 tsp oil + to deep fry

  1. Mix atta, aloo, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and 2 tsp oil. Knead into stiff dough. Use as little water as possible. Use boiled potatoes to knead the dough.
  2. Keep aside for 20 minutes covered with a damp cloth.
  3. Heat oil in heavy bottomed vessel (kadhai).
  4. Take a small ball (peda) out of the dough and roll out like a puri. Deep fry on both sides on medium heat. Fry till golden. Serve hot aloo ki puri with pickle of your choice.

Aloo Mooli ke Patte ki Sabzi (Potato with Radish Leaves)

aloo mooli patta sabzi

Aloo mooli ke patte ki sabzi or bhurji comes straight from my mom's kitchen. She cooks it really well. This dish can also be made without potatoes but then it will be slightly bitter to taste. Aloo absorbs the bitterness. I also add mooli pieces besides mooli ke patte in this recipe.
Recipe of aloo mooli ke patte ki sabzi
2 medium (aloo) potatoes- peeled and cubed
Leaves (patte) of 2 mooli (radish) - depends on how many leaves a mooli has
1/2 or 1 mooli- peeled and chopped
1 tbsp mustard oil
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
1/2 tsp amchoor (dried mango powder)
1. Wash mooli leaves, discard ‘only stems’ portion and chop rest of the leaves.
2. Take a wok or a kadhai and heat mustard oil to smoking point. Add cumin seeds and when they change color, add hing.
3. Add potatoes, mooli and mooli ke patte (leaves). Add salt and all the spices except amchoor. Mix well and cover the lid of the pan. Turn the heat to medium-low. There is no need to add water.
4. Stir occasionally and cook till potatoes are tender. Increase heat and let any moisture evaporate. Cook stirring till potatoes get a roasted appearance. Turn off heat and add amchoor. Mix well. Serve hot aloo mooli ke patte ki sabzi with rotis.

Banana Milk Shake

Banana milk shake or kela shake is a smooth, creamy and tasty beverage. If you use whole milk and add cream of milk (malai) at the top, it can be had as a rich dessert but personally I prefer low fat milk.

2 ripe bananas (kela)
2 cups milk
4 tsp sugar
4 drops vanilla essence
1. Peel and chop bananas into pieces.
2. Blend bananas, milk and sugar in a blender till smooth.
3. Add vanilla essence. Add crushed ice to serve banana milk shake.
